Eurogamer Expo 2011

Venue: Earls Court, London

From September 22nd to 25th, PF Events were contracted to supply all the technical production for the Developer Sessions and the GamesIndustry.biz conference rooms at the 4-day Eurogamer Expo 2011 at Earls Court. This included supplying all audio, video, lighting, staging and set as well as providing technical support throughout the 4 days of the event. PF Events also supplied AV equipment to 8 stands in the main arena.

Developer Sessions

This room featured five presentations per day from some of the industries leading games developers. Each presentation could incorporate live on-stage gameplay, video trailers, powerpoint presentations and/or interviews. The capability of seamlessly switching between video, presentation and gameplay through any of the major commercial consoles, all in HD, was an essential requirement. This was achieved using a Christie Spyder X20 HD video processor. Fibre optic cable runs were utilised in order to provide full 1080p HD and to successfully deal with the various consoles used in each presentation.

A Panasonic PT-DZ110X full HD projector was installed at the back of the room with a 16ft x 9ft Monoblox projector screen incorporated into the custom built set. Two 42" full HD plasma screens were also installed on stage to provide preview monitoring during gameplay. Two Sony PMW-EX3 HD-SDI camcorders were used throughout the 4 days to provide two angles at any time. For the Sony presentation of their new Plastation Vita handheld console, a PF Events cameraman was used to provide over-the-shoulder filming of the gameplay which was displayed live on the main screen.

In order to get the most out of the gameplay, PF Events installed twelve KV2 EX10 speakers and two Noise Control Audio VSB218 subwoofers in a 7.1 surround sound configuration by utilising a Denon DN-A7100 7.1 pre-amp decoder. A live microphone setup was supplied. The audio was controlled at FOH using a Roland M400 digital mixing desk.

In order to provide a stage wash and spots on the lectern, twelve Source Four Profiles were flown from the ceiling. Two Martin MAC700 moving head profiles were also flown from the ceiling in order to provide some coloured fx to the room and more intricate spot lighting on the stage for presenters who moved around. PF Events installed ten Par38 uplighters along the set and behind the stage in order to maximise the impact of the set. This was all controlled using an Avolited Pearl 2004.

PF Events installed a custom built 40ft x 14ft set and screen surround, a 10ft x 40ft stage with ply and felt fascia and a 16ft x 4ft tech surround for the control position.

GamesIndustry.biz Conference Room

PF Events installed two NCA Asym2 speakers and two VSB115 subwoofers, and supplied a live microphone setup for the industry conference room. The audio was controlled using a Midas Venice 160 mixing desk.

4 Source Four profiles were installed on stands at the back of the room to provide a stage wash. 24 Par30 uplighters were also installed round the edge of the room and at stage.

Two Panasonic 65” full HD plasma screens were built into the set with a Dell 24" HD monitor installed as a stage preview monitor.

PF Events installed a custom built 20ft x 8ft set with an 8ft x 20ft stage.
